The Idea is Born

The idea is born - Keptie Friends, a group of community minded people, were involved with several projects including, Arbroath Market and the Arbroath Christmas Lights, were looking for other projects which would enrich our community.

A great deal of residents in Arbroath talked about the old lido at West Links, and the old rock pool by the Ness, in Victoria Park.

So, the journey began, to explore the possibility of a new outdoor swimming facility. There was a meeting with the Park Department of Angus Council in December 2019, and the length of Victoria Park was walked to identify a suitable site. It was agreed there wasn’t a suitable site along Victoria Park, due to several reasons. We were not deterred and there a few individuals who were keen to be involved.

Then along came the pandemic, and the project had to wait. A meeting was called and held at Victoria Park. There was sufficient interested people who attended the public meeting, and a small group was established. We started our meetings in late in 2020. People joined and left in a flurry, there was a great deal of interest, but the commitment was a burden few were able take on.
